Sisterships Star Clipper and Star Flyer are true Clipper Ships reflecting their proud heritage in every inch of their polished brass and gleaming charm. Star Clipper and Star Flyer are modern small ships in every way, created for adventure-loving passengers looking for the tradition and romance of the legendary era of sailing ships but with the comforts and amenities of the present day. As identical twins, they are both 379 feet long and each carries 166 guests in pampered comfort, over 36,000 square feet of sails. Sixteen sails billowing in the wind.
NAUTICAL HERITAGE
Each ship offers spacious accommodation and expansive teak decks with ample space for walking and relaxation. In fact, you'll find that these ships offer more outdoor space per passenger than most conventional cruise ships.
The decor of Star Clipper and Star Flyer is reminiscent of the grand age of sailing with a modern touch. Antique prints and paintings of famous sailing ships appeal to the eye, while polished decks and gleaming mahogany rails are richly reminiscent of Star Clippers’ proud nautical heritage.
MODERN AMENITIES
Both ships feature open-seating dining in an elegantly appointed dining room, delightful indoor and outdoor Tropical and Piano bars, and an Edwardian-style library where a Belle Époque fireplace glows with a warmth that reflects the friendliness and enthusiasm of Star Clippers' hospitable officers and crew.
CLEAN ENERGY
Star Clipper and Star Flyer use very pure, high quality low sulphur gas oil for which the company was awarded the International Air Pollution Prevention Certificate. Star Flyer was the first ship in the world to recieve this accolade.
The History of Star Clippers is above all the adventure of one man and his lifelong passion for the sea.
Mikael Krafft was born in Stockholm but grew up 20 km from the Swedish capital, near the site of one of the largest shipyards in the world. As a youngster he would listen spellbound while the old “sea dogs” who worked there would tell tales of the glorious Clippers, tall ships which dominated the oceans in years gone by. This early passion for the sea was to shape the whole course of his existence.
As he grew up, Mikael became an expert sailor, owning many different sailing boats. It was during an Atlantic crossing on board his yacht “Gloria” that he came up with the idea of building two tall ships inspired by the Clippers he dreamed of as a child. Thus, Star Flyer and Star Clipper were born, followed some years later by Royal Clipper. His dream was to recreate the legendary clippers that crossed the oceans in the 19th century and in doing so offer people the chance to experience the unique thrill of sailing aboard a Tall Ship.
Its legendary dream has become a reality.
For more than 30 years now Star Clippers, the acknowledged specialist in sailing cruises, has been sharing the dream with thousands of passengers from all over the world onboard its three sailing ships.
